Michelle Lee

„A physically, mentally, and spiritually energizing practice“

„A physically, mentally, and spiritually energizing practice“

Michelle was first introduced to yoga in the autumn of 2001 while she was involved in the fitness industry as a personal trainer and group exercise instructor. She attended her first Bikram yoga class in her hometown of Vancouver, Canada, shortly after, and knew from the beginning that she wanted to become a Bikram yoga teacher. As her love continually grew for Bikram yoga, Michelle realized how wonderfully complete this yoga form is as a physically, mentally, and spiritually energizing practice.

She attended Bikram yoga teacher training in the summer of 2004. After graduating from university in 2005 with a degree in „exercise science“, Michelle decided to leave her other work in the fitness industry behind and started to teach Bikram yoga full-time.

Since then, Michelle has been able to combine her passion for yoga and travel. Since 2005, yoga has guided her through numerous amazing experiences around the world. Among many other opportunities, she has had the chance to teach in Hong Kong, Sweden, Norway, Turkey, Australia and New Zealand, participate in advanced yoga seminars with Bikram in Hawaii, Barcelona, Malta and Dubrovnik, attend an Ashtanga yoga course in Thailand, and hold hatha yoga classes by the beach in south Turkey.

Michelle had taught Bikram yoga in Stockholm and Malmö for 3 years and is looking forward to spending more time in Sweden again to share her love for yoga to the community of Göteborg.

The Gotheborg Bikram yoga studio is the only original one in Sweden’s second biggest city. Michelle Lee opened it up in December 2013 together with Allison Wong Toi and Louise Didriksso. It is situated between the modern Opera house close to the shore and the Kronhuset, the former city counsel, in a narrow lane. 13 yogis are waiting at the door this Thursday morning half an hour before the door opens. In the hot room, we will be even 20, a quarter of them men.

Through a bull’s-eye one can overlook the whole hot room. With twenty people it is well filled but not crowded. The changing rooms are simple but adequate. Michelle’s teaching is absolutely top class. She seems to have her eyes everywhere. She motivates and corrects and even finds time to give advices. One of them I never heard before I was able to use immediately. At the end one sits and relaxes and sips at the offered tea.

Bikram Yoga Oslo AS

Norwegian’s first studio is located near the Royal Palace. Charlotta is the co-owner. She opened it four years ago, after having taught since 2008 privately in a limited space. Large stairs lead to the underground where several rooms spread around the even larger hot room. One could easily get lost, fortunately there are pictogramms and logos. In the hot room there is space for four rows of Yogis. The hygienic carpet is coloured corn-yellow which gives a warm atmosphere together with the light of the candles.

Charlotta herself is teaching the 30 yogis (including five men) in Norwegian. She also cares for two beginners and a yogi who doesn’t feel well. Every posture is precisely executed. The temperature and the humidity rise because of the many people, so the workout seems to be even more exhausting than usual. All the more one enjoys the final Savasana. After this visit I say goodbye to Norway, grateful for the experiences I enjoyed to make in the excellent studios of this country.

„I like to make a place for a good atmosphere“

Sie sagt: „I like it to make a place for a good atmosphere in a fresh and clean studio, in a place where everybody feels welcome.“

„I like to make a place for a good atmosphere“

Inger Marie Skårslette is the owner of the Sandefjord studio and a certificied Bikram Yoga teacher. The studio is located in Sandefjord, about 120 kilometres south of Oslos. She opened it nearly four years ago in a modern complex of building near the railway station. She did her teacher training in San Diego in 2010.

She started practicing Bikram Yoga in January 2008 in Brussels while she was living there for four years. The cause was her bad health condition. „Bikram yoga healed my bad back, shoulders and body“, she says. After having become a Bikram Yoga teacher she started to teach as well as practicing yoga in Brussels and in Antwerp.

„I was lost in Bikram Yoga and saw a possibility to build up my own studio when I moved back to Sandefjord“, tells the previous technician assistant in pharmacy. What she enjoys most running the studio is to help people to a better life and to help them to heal themselves, to make a place for a good atmosphere in a fresh and clean studio, simply a place where everybody feels welcome.

Bikram Yoga Bergen

Karina unterrichtet in Englisch.

O.J Brochsgate 16c, 5006 Bergen, www.bikramyogabergen.no

Hard to believe that there is a Bikram Yoga studio located between the old town and the docks in front of the cruise ship MSC Sinfonia which accomodates 2000 passengers. Brit Misje Haugro opened the studio two years ago, it presents itself elegant, simple and in high quality exact in the way we expect to find in a Norwegian studio. Everywhere there are candles which are spreading a warm light.

Karina is teaching in English. Not only does she the dialogue perfectly well but she is also emphasising her words with explanating gestures. She seems to be a natural talent. As we are only ten people, she tells us to come closer to the front mirror. The energy of the class is quite strong, all of us do our best. At the end, while we are enjoying the final relaxation Savasana, she sings in her strong, colourful voice an adequate song in English: Yoga can be so beautiful!

Bikram Yoga Sandefjord

Skiringssalveien 20, 3208 Sandefjord, www.bys.no

On the 1st of October 2011 Inger Marie Skårslette opened her own studio in Sandefjord, about 120 kilometres south of Oslo. The surrounding is rather rural, lots of trees and lush green is visible. The seagulls show how near the Oslofjord is from where the ferry to Sweden is leaving just at this moment.

In a new modern building complex one finds an chemist, a psychologist, different sorts of alternativ medical supplies, several fitness studios and also the modern, bright rooms of this beautiful Bikram Yoga studio, which is quite small, but very well equipped with the newest technology.

The owner herself is teaching – in Norwegian. For me this is once more an exciting experience, knowing the dialoguqe word by word, hearing it now in a foreign language. We are only seven students practicing, many regulars are away in holiday. During the workout we are looking at the front mirror where we see the reflected light of the green tree leaves – how refreshing!
