Bikram Yoga Alicante

While regular tourists are swarming the beaches, those who like Hotyoga go to the new studio in Alicante that is located a few kilometres in the east of the town. In a part where lots of palm trees grow, close to the radial road.

Delia, the receptionist, says hello to the yogis. Nuria, the instructor, is teaching 12 women and 4 men – in the same spirited and confident way as did Sandra in La Coruña two and a half weeks ago. You find the studio at ground level, there is wood all over the reception area which gives us a cosy impression. You find a corner to relax, individual showers and a hot room in the colours grey, anthrazite and white. The floor is hygienic and in low-maintenance.

Nuria didn’t promise too much when she told of an agreable heat. It’s true, you sweat and sweat as usual but you sense the heat without the feeling of not be able to breath. Tereza takes the same class; she was my teacher one year ago in Elche. Nuria used to teach in Madrid and was accustomed to large classes. In the beginning, nobody in Alicante knew about Hotyoga. This changed soon and now there are more and more coming, including tourists. She teaches in Spanish, if something is to correct, for foreigners she does is in English. After the workout you can realax – preferrably outside in the green.

An bester Lage, leicht erreichtbar, unweit vom Meeresstrand.

Sandra Roco unterrichtet in Spanisch.

La Coruña has its own Bikram Yoga studio since nearly one year now! It’s located at a favorite spot, easily reachable and near the sea. Up to now I visited Bikram Yoga Spain-studios in Madrid, Valencia, Elche, and in two and a half weeks time I’ll be in the one in Alicante. All of them are joined unter the roof of the owner Jonathan Martin. Unusual for a Swiss is the lesson starting only at 9 pm. Since we are at the western end of Spain, compared to Switzerland everyting is one hour later and the days start and end later.

The reception area is very cosy; it’s also nicely furnitured with a lot of extras like a small sofa with a tea-table. The hot room, in which 27 yogis could practise, is located opposite. You reach the basement on iron stairs. Changing rooms and showers shows also special details. The floor is ceramics, lied out in a lively pattern, like a mosaic. A wonderful studio with much charm!

Sandra Roco is teaching in Spanish. She does it with a fire which is indeed contagious. Sandra’s voice changes from directive to low to challenging. When she is saying „respira“ or „cambio“ or „lentamente“ her dialogue also is calming down, her gestures seem more relaxed. She has been teaching for one year. She teaches ten lessons in one week. The success of the studio – we are 12 women and 5 men – call for more lessons. It seems as if the Spaniards are loving Bikramyoga more and more.

„I am tired but happy“

“I am tired but happy”, sagt sie.

Audrey from Bayonne, a few miles north of Biarritz, made a dream become true. She is director and founder of the Biarritz studio. Her adventure began when she started to practice Bikram Yoga 2011- in New Zealand. She became «addicted» very quickly. She couldn’t believe that there were only a few studios in France whereas there are so many in US, Australia and New Zealand. That’s why she started to consider opening a studio in Biarritz, just to give people a chance to enjoy those benefits.

Back in France, things were not that easy, as she had no studio for practicing. But soon she found a new studio in Bordeaux, where she met Alain. He became a very strong supporter and mentor, as was Gaby (Yoga Bikram Hossegor).

In fall 2013, she flies to LA for Teacher Training run by Bikram Choudhury himself. Back in France, she taught mainly in Bordeaux, in Hossegor, and sometimes in Paris, Marseille, Annecy. The 1st of July she was able to open her own studio in Biarritz. For the time being she does everything herself. “I am tired but happy”, she tells.

Hot Yoga Bikram Biarritz

“I am tired but very happy”, fasst sie zusammen.

Audrey has managed to open the first Bikram yoga studio in Basque region of France. You get there with a few minutes walk from downtown Biarritz and the world-famous beaches. The studio has been designed to be a place of practice and a nice and friendly living space of 180 m2. The hot room is 80 m2 and covered with a hygienical and antislip lining. The owner has developed this beautiful studio with a great effort and much love. One feels welcome and comfortable in the same time.

Ten classes a week are available, one is held in English. Audrey is the allround manager, the teacher, the cleaner, she does the administrative work. “I am tired but very happy”, she says. She is teaching this Friday evening a class of 12 women and two men. She loves to teach and to give people a chance to enjoy those benefits. She gives support when necessary, keeps the dialogue flowing, holding every posture exactly the time it needs. And already follows the next demanding posture. Afterwards I ask Audrey when she herself will be able practicing. “Twice a week I do it by myself, but then I miss the energy of the class, on Sunday I drive to Hossegor and take a class at Gaby’s place.”
