Yoga Nordic Oy Helsinki

The studio Nordic Oy is located near the water, close to a park and not far from the railway station. You can choose the stairs or an ancient escalator to the second landing. There you will be surprised by the tastefully decorated studio, which includes even a sauna, placed in the changing rooms. All over the place there are plants, nice pots and Buddha figures. Unfortunately only a small part of the front wall is mirrors. So it’s impossible to see and correct your own positions.

Harriet Linnankivi opened the studio 2004. She war the first in Finnland to introduce Hotyoga. Since then she developed different styles of yoga which are taught in the three studios in Helsinki, Estoo and Vantaa. The original Bikram-yoga-set is only taught in Helsinki, twice in a week. Lauriina Nevala is instructing us 13 yogis one set in English and the other one in Finnish. While speaking English, she follows the fixed dialogue, in Finnish she seems to vary much more. Although I don’t understand it, I hear her voice is far more vivid. She did the Teacher Training in 2011 in Los Angeles. Now she is the owner of the studio in Vantaa, co-owner in Espoo and owner in Helsinki too. Even though the room doesn’t seem to be very hot one sweats like mad – perhaps it’s the same as in Kiel in the north of Germany, where the nearby sea makes the air salty and more humid.
