Yogi trainiert neben Yogi, Matte liegt neben Matte.

The oldest Bikram Yoga studio in Vienna is one of the first in Europe, at the same time, and is set at Neubaugürtel 47 opposite the public library of the city. It is accessible via the elevator at Neubaugürtel 47 – don’t get lost at Lugner City – or the glass bridge next to the Aida cafe right of the stairs and is set in the fifth floor.

Here, on top of the town, a gorgeous, light flooded, almost “heavenly” hot room is waiting for the trainees. Separated changing rooms, many showers, washing lotions and hair dryers are provided. The climate of the room is stabilised at a degree of 38 to 40 by a special heating system, consisting of heating rays, ventilation and air dampers. The Studio floor is covered by an oiled wooden floor and is sanitised twice a day and mopped after every class. By looking at the huge mirrors, everyone is able to control and correct their positioning by themself.

Yogi is training next to Yogi. Mat is lying next to mat. The windows are opened slightly from time to time. It is very hot: the highly pregnant Lilly isn’t just teaching with confidence, but also able to give helpful advice.

The session begins at nine a.m. At half past two p.m. my train is leaving back to Switzerland: I have a bit of time to meet my friend and her husband. We toast with a bottle of red Prosecco – the bottle top is a feast for the eyes – and create a little, improvised sandwich – buffet beneath a tree. We’re even able to head down a little part of the Donau canal before we make our way to the western train station. What could be lovelier than to combine your passion and your friendship?

And then, I’m already on the move again. My friend Brigitte Trümpy and her husband are spending a week of their vacation in Vienna. I got the idea of heading there, too. If I was able to meet them: even better. Firstly, I took a train to Linz, arrived there at noon, checked into a hotel close to the train station and had a few hours to experience the beautiful city and to stroll across the incredibly wide Donau. Culturally Linz has very much to offer, too. But I save this for another visit. In the September of 2012, Nelly Seimann opened her own Bikram Yoga studio in Linz. She’s a professional dancer and dance educator and came to know and love Bikram Yoga in New York five years ago.

She opened the studio at the Linzer Spittelwiese with her partner Jürgen Walgram. The windows in the back of the students, which are reflected by the mirrored walls on the opposite, create an image of being surrounded by lush green leaves during a session. The studio is beautiful and will be providing more and more lessons in the future.

Bikram Yoga Stuttgart, Deutschland

Gutenbergstrasse 77a, 70197 Stuttgart, www.hotyogastuttgart.com

In Stuttgart everything is new, big, bright, friendly and perfectly decorated with a small amount of furniture. Oz, a woman from Turkey living in Germany, is only teaching three Yogis this noon. The studio was opened in the middle of March and has to establish itself, firstly. The owner is telling me about many interested Americans. Because I know Stuttgart from an earlier visit with my husband, I head back to Switzerland almost immediately after the class. Previously to the midday session I had enough time to take a walk through the city. Oz even gave me an apple and an orange for the journey back home, which I would be very delighted about later.

Almost two years later Balz Erwald – a freshly educated Bikram Yoga teacher, who is the new director in the studio in Basel and is teaching as guest teacher in Stuttgart from time to time – says: “Oz’ studio has developed wonderfully. The classes are attended well and there is a beautiful combination between discipline and warmth (not only speaking of the heating).” Nice to hear!

Bikram Yoga Frankfurt, Deutschland

Leipzigerstrasse 67, 60487 Frankfurt, www.bikramyogafrankfurt.com

How wonderful it is to stroll through Frankfurt, to experience the city, look for the Yoga studio and to get into the hot room at the end of the day. Frankfurt is one of the Studios, which belongs to Feroze. It appears to be a bit old fashioned. Compared to the rather small size of the room, there are a lot of people inside of it; accordingly to this it can get very hot and steamy during the session.

Eventually, the teacher opens a window in the stairwell, which brings a little bit of refreshment. Funny: Usually, the teachers describe the fourth part of the half-moon pose as a Japanese sandwich, while in Frankfurt they instruct you to fold like a Swiss Army knife. After the session in the evening, I quickly head back to the hotel close to the main train station, which I chose to be able to get on an early train to Stuttgart, the following day.

(This studio closed in August 2015 because the leasing contract expired. The new studio is located in Eschborn, Feroze Khan and Peter Funke are the co-owners.)

1. Schweizer Championship

1. Schweizer Championship

Kategorie Damen: 1. Sarah Ghilardi, 53,3 Punkte, 2.
