In eigener Sache

About myself

My project to visit and write about all Bikramyoga studios in Europ is nearly completed. I visited and trained in 165 studios in 22 countries (which lead to a heap of travel guides!) in the last years. England has the most: 31. Yet in Poland, Serbia Slovenia and Portugal there were only one each. Still to visit remain two studios in Northern Ireland, one in Athens and perhaps a few that are still to open these days. According to my own rules, the teachers of the studios must have absolved their training with Bikram Choudhury, the inventor of this kind of yoga. And they have to offer courses in exactly the way Bikram defined. Bikram is 70 years old now, and increasingly the studios offer different styles like Warm Yin, Warm Vinyasa, Warm Vinyasa Flow oder Warm Pilates. So the amount of studios I have to visit is very limited.

It has been an exciting time. I have seen many studios that were stylish or set in beautiful surroundings. And some that bear the Bikram logo without having been certified. I have trained with hundreds of teachers and learned a lot. Sometimes without understanding one single word of the local language. But after every trip, I enjoyed to return to my home studio at the Gruengasse in Zurich, the first to open in Switzerland. And to train with the skilled teachers of Stefan Tanner, its owner.
